Involvement/Community Boards

Purpose: “It shall be the purpose of the Corridors Commission to assess the major roads of Lexington-Fayette 

County, especially the major and minor arterials, regarding but not limited to aesthetic qualities, landscaping, 

fencing, signage, litter control, bike and pedestrian considerations and other elements the Commission may 

deem appropriate.”

The Corridors Commission was organized in 1987 and it became a LFUCG-funded program in 1988. The Corridors Commission receives an annual budget from LFUCG.

Makeup of Commission: 15 voting members appointed by mayor and approved by the Urban County Council, 

nine non-voting members.

 

Meetings: Third Thursday of each month (except June- July and November-December) at 12 noon on the

 5th floor of the Government Center, 200 East Main St. Meetings are open to the public.

Role of LCGC on the Commission:  Represent purposes of LCGC. LCGC has had a voting member since 1990.

LFUCG Tree Board

Purpose: “The Tree Board hears appeals from denials of applications for permits; advises appropriate municipal agencies on matters of care, preservation, planting, removal, and replacement of trees in parks, along streets and in public areas; promotes urban forestry.”

Makeup of Board:  Fifteen members appointed by the mayor and approved by the Urban County Council.

Meetings: Monthly, on the 2nd Wednesday at 10:30a.m. in the 5th floor conference room of the LFUCG, 

200 E. Main St. Meetings are open to the public.

Role of LCGC on the Board: Represent purposes of LCGC and serve as a voting member if named by the mayor.

LFCUG Division of Parks & Recreation, Raven Run Citizens Advisory Board

Purpose: “The Raven Run Citizens Advisory Board advises the Division of Parks and Recreation in an effort to 

perpetuate the nature sanctuary status of the property known as the Raven Run Nature Sanctuary.”

Makeup of Board: 14-member board appointed by the mayor and approved by the Urban County Council.

Meetings: Monthly (except December) on the 2nd Wednesday at 4:30pm at the Picadome Clubhouse, 

469 Parkway Drive. The board also meets at Raven Run once in the spring and fall.

 

Role of LCGC on the Board: Represent purposes of LCGC and serve as a voting member. 

Celebrate Lexington (formerly America in Bloom/LEX)

Purpose:  We envision a welcoming community of informed citizens cooperatively engaged in preserving and 

enhancing our unique fabric of environmental, aesthetic, cultural and historical assets.

Make-up of Board:  Sixteen members from the categories to which AIB/Lex subscribes: Landscape Design, 

Urban Forestry, Floral Displays, Environmental Conservation, and Historic Preservation.

Meetings: Monthly on the first Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Thomas Hunt Morgan House, 102 N Broadway.

Role of LCGC on the Board: Represent purposes of LCGC and serve as a voting member.
